📰 Hot Off The Presses

Last month, MDS readers said fees, fulfillment, and logistics costs were creating the biggest operational adjustment, with Prime Day timing and Rufus/AI discovery close behind.

Conveniently, Amazon decided to make June a stress test for all three.

Amazon has now confirmed Prime Day will run June 23–26, keeping the four-day format and putting the event right in the middle of World Cup season, July 4th prep, and peak summer deal-hunting. The interesting part is less “surprise, it’s earlier” and more “hope your inventory calendar has a lawyer.”

Amazon’s own Prime Day readiness playbook makes that very literal. AWD and FBA shipments using minimal shipment splits were due May 27, while FBA shipments with Amazon-optimized splits need to arrive by June 5 for Prime Day eligibility.

(Late inventory can still be received, but Amazon is very clear that late arrivals may not be processed in time for Prime eligibility.)

In other words: Prime Day performance is already being shaped by shipments, split decisions, and receive times happening before many shoppers even know the event dates.

Then there’s discovery. Amazon introduced Alexa for Shopping, bringing Rufus and Alexa+ together across the Amazon app, website, and Echo Show devices. The seller implication is pretty straightforward: Amazon wants more shoppers to ask conversational product questions inside the shopping journey itself.

That matters because Adweek frames the rollout as part of Amazon’s advertising growth story, not just a consumer AI update. If Alexa for Shopping becomes another surface for product comparison, recommendation, and intent capture, sellers will have to think about AI visibility and paid visibility as connected problems.

Meanwhile, pricing pressure is not exactly taking the month off. Some retailers may lower prices as tariff refunds arrive, which means cost relief could turn into competitive pressure pretty quickly if categories start passing refunds through as promos.

So yes, growth is still there. But June is asking sellers to execute across inventory, pricing, AI visibility, and fulfillment speed all at once.

💸 Million Dollar Advice

Prime speed is powerful. Prime dependence is expensive.

As fulfillment costs keep climbing and Prime Day deadlines hit, FBA deserves a sharper question than “worth it or not?”

For most operators, FBA shouldn’t be a blanket strategy. It should be used where the math works: fast-moving, margin-safe, operationally predictable products that benefit from Prime speed without quietly eating the P&L alive.

If this month’s fulfillment squeeze is forcing a bigger FBA rethink, start here.

🗽 Last call for Operator Room New York

Operator Room lands in New York on June 10, bringing scaled eCom founders into a private, invite-only room for the conversations that usually don’t happen on stage.

Jabran Niaz of Utopia Brands, Mookie Deitsch of Bonnie and Pop, and Jay Hunter of Sprinter will help anchor a closed-door discussion on what changes past $30M–$50M, from leadership and operations to spending, cuts, and growth across Amazon, DTC, TikTok, and retail.

No decks. No vendors. No pitching. Just operators talking through the decisions scale actually demands.

🍽️ Keep the conversation going at dinner

After Operator Room, MDS is hosting a private Centurion dinner for 20M+ eCom founders, capped at 20 seats.

It’s a smaller table for founders who want to keep the conversation going with peers operating at a similar level.

🇨🇦 Next up: Operator Room Vancouver

Can’t make New York? Operator Room heads to Vancouver on July 8 for another private, vetted room for scaled eCom founders and operators.

🚚 The delivery math sellers can’t ignore

As fulfillment pressure keeps moving up the list of seller concerns, last mile delivery deserves more than a quick carrier-rate check.

A few quick reminders from our latest guide:

  1. Speed isn’t the whole strategy.
A same-day promise that fails regularly is weaker than a next-day promise customers can actually trust.

  1. One delivery model rarely fits every order.
In-house fleets, 3PLs, crowdsourced delivery, pickup points, lockers, and hybrid carrier models all solve different problems.

  1. Density matters.
Dense metro demand can support tighter delivery windows. Scattered or rural demand usually needs a different model.

  1. Track the right KPIs.
Cost per delivery, first-attempt success, delivery exception rate, delivery CSAT, and reshipments tied to logistics errors all tell you more than “on-time delivery” alone.

  1. Vendor demos are not enough.
Ask how partners handle exceptions, peak compression, customer communication, reporting, and volume mix changes.

📊 eCom Market Pulse

Public-market updates aren’t a perfect read on seller reality, but they do show where the biggest retail platforms are putting investor attention: faster delivery, AI, advertising, marketplace growth, and operational efficiency.

  • Amazon is still getting credit for scale with Q1 net sales up 17% YoY and North America sales up 12%. But the operator-level story is the same one showing up in this issue: faster delivery, AI shopping, advertising growth, and the cost of keeping everything moving.

  • Shopify cleared $100B in quarterly GMV with Q1 revenue up 34% YoY. That’s a strong read on merchant activity outside Amazon, even as platform costs and margin discipline stay very much in focus.

  • Walmart remains one of the clearest Amazon counterweights with eCommerce now making up 20% of net sales and global eCommerce sales up 26%.

  • Alibaba is a different kind of signal — overall growth is modest, but cloud and AI are becoming a bigger part of the company’s investor story.

Translation for operators: the market still likes speed, automation, ads, AI, and fulfillment infrastructure. Sellers still have to make the math work.

📍 The rooms to be in this month

Prime Day is moving faster. Fulfillment timelines are tighter. AI shopping is shifting how products get found. And somehow, margin pressure still found time to RSVP.

The upside? You don’t have to think through all of it alone.
