The tariff tides continue to circle, and we can only hope that the decisions announced on April 2nd let us off the merry-go-round — but we’re not holding our breath. Or wondering why less than 1% of Amazon sellers are selling outside of North America right now.
Big banks continue to cut stock outlooks for 2025. The majority of US consumers expect to foot the tariff bill. And whether or not 83% of US households will continue to shop on Amazon spending +$2800 on average this year remains to be seen.
But at least key players in the ecompreneur ecosystem are doing what they can to soften the blow and keep people buying online (and social commerce alive) — including an 11th hour bid from Amazon to acquire TikTok.
UPS, for one, is introducing better import fee transparency to minimize surprise charges for shoppers — while big retailers roll out more and more targeted sales events to attract cost-conscious shoppers.
Among those big retailers is Amazon, who’s opting to double the length of its flagship Prime Day sale this year to give price-sensitive shoppers more time to snap up the deals — and almost certainly, to outdo themselves on YoY growth.
Speaking of AMZ revenue streams, sellers running deals and promotions during Amazon’s sales events should expect to be charged a premium. So, plan accordingly and make sure you use this new promotion fee calculator from Carbon6 to make sure you stay profitable.
You could say that Amazon and especially Amazon Prime have backed the retail industry into a corner in more ways than one. Beyond their quest to overtake Google as the internet’s ad powerbroker — and a customer base made up of 75% women with a 99% repeat purchase rate — Amazon has now won a growing 16.2% slice of clothing and apparel sales.
And after seizing a whopping 15 million counterfeit products last year?
Increased consumer trust in Amazon will only bolster sales — and their new AI-powered Interests feature that tailors product recs to shoppers' passions and hobbies won’t hurt either.
